Checkout By Amazon is a complete checkout solution. It lets web site visitors sign in to web sites using an Amazon Account login and buy items using the familiar Amazon’s 1-Click® button. Checkout By Amazon service provides tools for businesses to manage shipping charges, sales tax, promotions, and post-sale activities including refunds, cancellations, and chargebacks..

Amazon Simple Pay

Amazon Simple Pay is a service that allows consumers to use their Amazon account information to pay for purchases on other web sites. It is for those merchants who don’t need sophisticated checkout and order management capabilities, but who would like to incorporate Amazon’s customer login system to sell products.

Amazon Simple Pay differs from Checkout by Amazon in that Checkout by Amazon provides additional capabilities to support real-time shipping and tax calculation, promotions, and order management-tasks including order cancellations, order reports and shipment tracking. If you don’t need Amazon’s end-to-end checkout pipeline and order management capabilities, but still want to enable your customers to use their payment information already on file at Amazon.com, use Amazon Simple Pay.

Amazon also offers the Amazon Flexible Payment Service, a developer-oriented money-transfer API, which is currently in limited beta testing mode.

Checkout By Amazon competes with PayPal and Google Checkout. The Amazon service costs 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction for transactions of $10 or more. Transactions less than $10 cost 5% + $0.05 per transaction.

Google Checkout costs 2% + $0.20 per transaction. PayPal charges on a sliding scale, starting at 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction for monthly sales up to $3,000.

PayPal

They offer a downloadable software utility that is called PayPal Secure Card. The utility automatically detects when a customer visits an e-commerce checkout page, generates a unique MasterCard number, and then helps fill out the payment form. This is done through a partnership with credit card issuer MasterCard Inc.

“From a merchant’s perspective this looks like any other MasterCard transaction,” said Chris George, director of financial products for PayPal. “And it’s just another PayPal purchase to the customer.”

Secure Cards work on Windows computers running either Internet Explorer or Firefox. Users of Apple’s Safari browser have only partial access to the service for now, George said.

Secure Card has been tested by 3 million PayPal customers in the past year. Mark ‘Rizzn’ Hopkins, one of them, tells about his experience:

You install and set up the software, and on your taskbar, you have a little PayPal icon. When you want to generate a random credit card number, you double click on it. A little “virtual credit card” pops up on your screen, complete with randomly generated MasterCard numbers, expiration date, and CVV. All payments made with the information are directly and immediately made from your existing PayPal account

The form fill seems to work decently in Internet Explorer, but if you’re a Firefox user, don’t expect it to fill out any forms. It has a Firefox plug-in that seems to do little more than really slow down the browsing experience (and I recommend removing the plug-in as soon as you install the application). It is, however, handy to have, especially for folks like me with a debit card so well worn that the CVV numbers are no longer visible.

The plug-in will be available to U.S. customers on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, with international customers to follow.

Niche selection can be very tricky. A lot of people will pick a niche, promote it for a while, make no sales and just give up. They will claim that niche marketing just doesn’t work and that anyone that says it’s profitable is lying. Well, the truth of the matter is, a lot of people, even top Internet marketers will pick a bad niche from time to time. But the key is not to give up. If you pick a niche that isn’t profitable throw it out and move on to the next one.

You may have to research a lot of niches before you find the one that is right for you. Not everyone is meant to promote every niche. But when you find that perfect niche you will know it. It could be a niche that you have a particular interest in and want to learn more about or it could be niche that deals with a problem that you have already had and managed to solve. It is important that you don’t stop with just one niche. Pick a handful of niches that interest you. Promote more than one. When one or two of these niches start pulling in the profits, then start promoting them like crazy. Squeeze every bit of cash that you can out of them.

The best way to test a niche is to become an affiliate first. Chances are, if there are several products in the niche you choose, then there is a market for it. Don’t be afraid of a little competition.

Becoming an affiliate is the best way to learn the ins and outs of the niche marketing game before you dive in to product creation on your own. This can save you a ton of time and money. When the time comes to develop your own product and start marketing it, you won’t go in blind.

Are niches all dried up now?

Well, Katerina, if I said the Internet isn’t becoming more competitive, I would be lying. If I told you that finding a niche market on the Internet is as easy today as it was five years ago, I would be lying.

The Internet is a competitive hunting ground, and it’s only going to get more competitive — but does that mean all the good opportunities are gone?

NO!!!

You are talking about a business medium that allows you to reach every wired corner of the world from your computer at home. According the Internet World Stats, as of June 10, 2007 there were 1.133 BILLION people online — and it’s still growing at a phenomenal rate.

With those kinds of numbers, I’d be willing to guess there are still a few great opportunities waiting to be discovered!

However, the fact is: If your hobby or interest happens to be something like “golf” or “health products,” the chances of finding a niche are slim to none. These are saturated markets, and it’s time to expand beyond them.

If you are serious about making money online and you have explored your interests and have found them to be too competitive, then it’s time to broaden the scope of your search.

What would you enjoy learning more about? Don’t let your lack of knowledge stop you from exploring a topic you’re interested in. I know if I set aside an hour a day for the next month and immersed myself in an unfamiliar niche, I would have enough knowledge to start an online business based on that topic.

The point I am trying to make here, is don’t limit yourself to what you know today. Broaden the scope of your search and explore new niches where you aren’t already an expert — and all of sudden different potential businesses will start to appear.

My final comment is this: Don’t always write a business opportunity off simply because there’s some competition in the market. Rather, you should determine the viability of an opportunity by analyzing the quality of the competition.

If you look at the competition and believe you could do a better job meeting the needs of the market — if you can come up with a unique selling proposition that offers more value and truly differentiates you from all the other sellers out there — then you can be massively successful in an already competitive market.

Remember: Perseverance is key! Like Albert Einstein said:

It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.
